White House to welcome kids for Easter egg roll

The White House is set to host its Easter Egg Roll, with rain chances posing the potential of dampening Monday’s annual event.

First lady Jill Biden set a theme of “EGGucation” for the festivities, which include rolling eggs on the South Lawn of the White House, an egg hunt, obstacle course, educational activities and performances.

The White House said it expected 40,000 people to participate.

The event began in 1878 when then-President Rutherford B. Hayes invited children to the White House lawn to roll Easter eggs after they were barred from the U.S. Capitol grounds.
