Suspected militants attacked Iran’s Revolutionary Guards headquarters in the southeast region of Sistan-Baluchestan, killing at least 11 members of the Iranian security force and injuring 10 others, as per the state media on Thursday.

At least 16 suspected militants were also killed in the overnight clashes between the Jaish al-Adl group and security forces that took place in the towns of Chabahar and Rask, state TV said.

State broadcaster IRIB said: “In one of the attacks on police station number 11 of the city of Chabahar, deputy of the station Abbas Mir, was martyred”

It added that a number of assailants were also killed or injured.

Furthermore, it stated that the attacks were claimed by the Jaish al-Adl group, which was founded in 2012 and is designated as a “terrorist” organisation by Iran.

“The terrorists failed to succeed achieving their goal of seizing the Guards headquarters in Chabahar and Rask,” deputy Interior Minister Majid Mirahmadi told state TV.

Notably, the province of Sistan-Baluchistan, which shares borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been plagued by instability.

The capital of the province, Zahedan, saw an attack on another police station in July of last year that resulted in the deaths of two police officers and four attackers.

Pakistan denounces attacks in Iran

Mudassir Tipu, the Pakistani ambassador to Iran, denounced the two horrific terrorist attacks that took place in Iran. According to him, Pakistan has shown support for Iran in the fight against terrorism.

He said on X (formerly Twitter): “Pakistan strongly condemns 2 heinous terrorist attacks at police & security posts in Rask & Chabahar resulting in martyrdom of brave Iranian security forces. We stand in full solidarity with our brotherly neighbour Iran in fighting terrorism & protecting its interests. Terrorism must be curbed.”
